Samui Centre of Learning’s Commitment to Thai Language
Education is one of the primary concerns for any parent. When selecting a school, parents want to know that every aspect of their child’s education is taken care of and is of the highest quality. Many view an International Education as the key to a bright future as English is so widely spoken around the world. Whilst we here at Samui Centre of Learning agree with this whole heartedly, we also believe that it is very important not to forget where we are and therefore place a great importance to the teaching of Thai Language and Culture.
As many of the children attending our school are either fully Thai or have one Thai parent, it is a concern for their parents that should their child wish to stay in Thailand and continue on to a Thai University, that the level of Thai Language may not be high enough for them to do so, if they continue with International Education. We also believe that it is important for foreign children to learn some of the language and culture of Thailand, even if they are only here for a short time.
With all of these concerns in mind, Samui Centre of Learning not only strives to provide the highest quality in International education, but places great importance on Thai Language and culture as well. Our Thai Language and Culture Department is now formed of a team of six fully qualified and experienced Thai teachers, led by School Manager Khun Kru Patemakan Saengtien and Head Teacher Khun Kru Oraphun Kedsopa.
Both women have over 28 years teaching experience and both have received the prestigious National Teachers Award for Thai Language, Kru Patemakan in 2001 and Kru Oraphun in 1995. Alongside this both women have, on several occasions, have led their students to win first place in the National Public Speaking and Writing Competitions. Kru Oraphun (who is also qualified to teach “Maliart Thai” or Thai manners which form a large part of Thai Culture) in 1999 was announced winner of the Thai Language Project and her project is now used as part of the Thai National Curriculum for the teaching of Thai Language. Kru Patemakan now believes that over the next two years Samui Centre of Learning will become famous for its high quality Thai Language teaching:
I believe that very soon our students will be ready to enter the National Public Speaking and Writing Competitions and also be ready to enter the regional Maliart Thai Competitions
Under the experienced guidance of these two accomplished women the future of Thai Language at Samui Centre of Learning is in safe and capable hands. It would appear that at last there is a place where the quality of International teaching is matched by its quality of Thai language teaching, something so important to so many families here on Samui.
