Over the years, Samui Centre of Learning has continuously strived to provide all our students with opportunities to excel as we follow the schools motto: Educating the Mind, Nurturing the Soul. From the very beginning Samui Centre of Learning has always had a very family-oriented atmosphere, which I’m happy to say has remained with us throughout our growth and ensures each child feels confident and loved as they make their journey through their school career. The caring environment, coupled with an excellent British and Thai curriculum, and a dedicated, professional, teaching staff ensures Samui Centre of Learning continues to grow from strength to strength.
I feel very proud and honoured to be a part of this school and am continually grateful to all our families, students and members of staff for making SCL the truly great place it is.

Samui Centre of Learning is proud to announce that we have been granted our International Licence, making us SCL International School. This is a special accolade, where we are only the second school in Southern Thailand to be granted this licence.

We would like to thank our teaching staff and school community for their support in helping this happen. A special mention goes out to Kru Rose and her team of Thai teaching staff for their role in supporting this process.

The school celebrated receiving this licence with a ceremony on Friday March 30. Please have a look at the photos attached in the gallery below.

The children in FS1 did a fantastic job in planting seeds in our school eco garden.

Nayana and her dad Marius helped the children learn about how to plant the seeds and how to take care of them. The children were very much involved in planting the seeds. They enjoyed planting Okras and morning glory. Everyday the children water them and look at how much the seedlings have grown. After a week the plants have grown very quickly and the children are very happy and excited to see the tiny stems and leaves.

Well done to all FS1 children!

A big ‘well done’ to Year 8 for winning the Secondary Inter-Form Poetry Writing Challenge for World Poetry Day! Their winning poem really impressed Teacher Kim, with its use of metaphor, rhythm and rhyme.

Excellent work Year 8, and a fantastic example of collaborative work!

The Soul of the Wounded Earth

I am suffering a slow and painful death.

I am suffocating on the pollution of mankind’s breath.

I bleed oil, timber, gold and silver.

Humans are giving me the shivers.

Time is running out, I’m trying to scream and shout!

We only have one shot, to change the whole damn lot.

So change your ways or become my slaves.

Year 2’s Theme this term has been Fantasy Land.  As part of our topic we have looked at a range of different castles and designed castles that we would like to live in ourselves.  Year 2 had been working really hard so as a treat we decided to go to the beach during Golden Time for a Sand Castle Competition.  Myself and the children had a fantastic day and we built some amazing Sand Castles.  Ewan, Ugo and Estevan build a sand castle without any adult help so they were the winners of our competition.  Well done boys!  Thank you to Elouan’s, Brayden’s, Millie’s, Cole’s and Darcy’s parents for coming and making our afternoon on the beach even more exciting.

Year 2’s Science topic this half term has been Changing Materials.  To test how materials change we decided to conduct  an experiment using chocolate.  The children investigated what happened to chocolate when it was melted and then when it was cooled.  The children had lots of fun and found out that when melted chocolate turns from a solid into a liquid.  When the chocolate is cooled again it turns back to a solid.

This term we have been looking at traditional tales.  We read and acted out the ‘Three Little Pigs’, ‘The three Billy Goats Gruff’’ and ‘Hansel and Gretal’.  We made Hansel and Gretal puppets and gingerbread houses and then acted out the story in groups.  After we looked at different stories we decided to write stories of our own.  We looked at settings, characters and story structures.  The children dressed up as their favourite characters and wrote some very interesting character descriptions.

Year 2 have been looking at different poems about Dragons.  First the children looked at and read different poems by a range of different writers.  Then in groups the children choose a poem and performed it to the rest of the class.  Next the children wrote a dragon poem of their own.  We then made dragons out of salt dough and performed the poems in front of a fantasy background using our salt dough dragons.
